The goal of the medical interpreter training program is to train competent, bilingual medical interpreters who will promote access to quality health care by enhancing the therapeutic relationship between patient and provider and by facilitating communication during the health care encounter and incorporating awareness and respect of cultural perspectives.

Who Should Attend:
Bilingual staff/volunteers working with MassHealth providers who receive Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) funding and wish to improve their interpretation skills. Any bilingual health care professional. Attendees must be fluent in both reading and writing English and the target language. 
Attendance at all sessions is required

$100.00 if employed by a facility that receives Division of Medical Assistance

Training programs are sponsored by the MA Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) of the Commonwealth, University Of Massachusetts Medical School's Office Of Community Programs, and the Massachusetts Statewide Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).  This training is available for bilingual individuals and staff working with DMA MassHealth providers. 

To participate in this training, attendees must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English and the target language.  Participants must successfully pass a language assessment test that includes an evaluation of oral and written proficiency in English and the target/native language of the interpreter.
