Holyoke Medical Interpreting / Spring 2013
Berkshire AHEC is offering a 60 hour “Fundamentals of Medical Interpreting” for bilingual and multilingual individuals at Holyoke Medical Center, Fran Como Conference Room, 1st Floor, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA. The components of the program include practical applications of fundamental interpreting skills, effective communication in the triad (client-provider-interpreter), listening and memory skills, comprehensive medical terminology in target languages, human anatomy and physiology vital to effective medical interpreting, and methods of interpreting in special settings role playing and medical terminology are incorporated into each session. A certificate of completion is provided upon completing the course and passing the final exam. Students may be eligible to receive college credits and professional contact hours in nursing and social work. Classes will start in February 2013 and end in May 2013. Required language assessments are scheduled for: Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 6 – 9 p.m. & Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6 - 9 p.m. Snow reschedule dates are: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 6 - 9 p.m. & Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6 - 9 p.m.
