Continuing Education
The goal of the Medical Interpreter Training Program is to promote access to healthcare by facilitating and enhancing the communication between patient and provider during a healthcare encounter.
This program trains bilingual individuals and employees or volunteers who work in agencies providing Div. of Medical Assistance/MassHealth funded services to become medical interpreters.
Participants must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English and the target language. Passing a language assessment test that includes an evaluation of oral and written proficiency in English and the target/native language of the interpreter is required of all participants.
A standardized curriculum is utilized that incorporates awareness and respect of cultural perspectives. Attendance at all sessions is required for a certificate of training.
Conference Management/Hosting
Based in Pittsfield, MA., Berkshire AHEC offers conference management services to small and large public and private organizations.Staff has expertise in pre-conference planning, on-site logistics and post-conference evaluation.
Services that can be provided include:
- facilitating conference planning meetings
- speaker engagement and support
- state of the art on-line registration
- site selection and menu planning
- marketing
- event staffing
- audio visual setup, including audience response system
- all aspects of continuing education credits for health and human service professionals
