Effective Collaboration with Medical Interpreters

Learn how to work with medical interpreters to support effective patient centered care. Effective communication with patients and clients is critical to the safety and quality of care. Discuss the barriers to communicate effectively with multilingual families and their different cultural backgrounds. This session will also show how the Medical Interpreting Law applies to the healthcare setting. The key elements of effective communication that are the core component of patient and client centered care will be highlighted. Case examples for discussion will also be included.
Objectives:
- Recognize the relevance of language and culture in patient center care
- Explain the Massachusetts Emergency Room Interpreter Bill and how it applies to you
- Emphasize the benefit of Medical Interpreter Services
- Demonstrate the importance of using a competent interpreter – communication is key
